Let's face it: Dating is hard. Swiping endlessly on dating apps, blindly walking into a setup your friends assured you would be "perfect," and just hoping to meet someone organically can sometimes be disheartening (to put it lightly). This is particularly true for those of us looking for a partner who's chill with cannabis.

Sure, recreational weed hasn't been legalized and/or decriminalized(opens in a new tab) in every state, but that shouldn't mean finding someone with a mutual love for smoking a joint or enjoying an edible should be impossible. That's why we've scoured the web to find the best 420 dating sites and apps where you can connect with like-minded individuals who enjoy cannabis just as much as you do.

Whether you've had that super-awkward first date where you've suddenly become some unofficial criminal to the other person, or just want to skip the hassle of discussing it altogether, we've got you covered with a list of 420-friendly dating sites to make your search for a canna-lover as stress-free as possible. So, pack your favorite strain and get ready to meet your match.

Cannabis culture and 420-friendly dating in 2023

Before we introduce you to the world of 420-friendly dating, let's take a second to look at some facts.

  • As of March 16, 2023, 21 states(opens in a new tab) (including Washington, D.C., and Guam) have moved to legalize recreational marijuana.

  • Approximately 88% of adults want to legalize weed. According to the Pew Research Center(opens in a new tab), 88% of U.S. adults favor legalizing marijuana for either medical or recreational use. Only 10% of adults say it shouldn't be legal at all.

  • Weed has the potential to improve your love life. In 2019, Match's Singles in America survey(opens in a new tab) revealed that smokers were 151% more likely to be dating someone when compared to nonsmokers. What's more? Smokers were 109% more likely to have had multiple orgasms and 3.6% more orgasms per sexual encounter.

More than filters: Finding a weed-friendly partner is easier than ever

By now, you're probably thinking: This is great, but how do I find the right 420-friendly dating site for me? Luckily, there are unique dating sites designed specifically for this purpose — think High There! and My420Mate. If you're more into the mainstream dating sites (we're looking at you, match(opens in a new tab) and Zoosk(opens in a new tab)), you can use filters built into the apps to find your ideal smoking buddy.

How much do weed-friendly dating sites cost?

Each of the sites and apps we mention below has a free version you can sign up for — though these basic membership levels offer varying access to the apps' features. However, if you’re really serious about things, it can be worth shelling out the cash for premium membership tiers, which unlock more features that, in turn, should theoretically unlock more (or better) matches and, therefore, more dates. Price points exist for almost every budget, too, so you can choose the service that feels the best for you.

Here are the best dating sites for cannabis enthusiasts and 420-friendly singles looking for love in 2023:

Match.com logo

match (opens in a new tab)

Best dating site for serious relationships

Read our full review of match.

The gist: With the ease of using Tinder but the compatibility-matching of eharmony, match is an excellent site for people looking for deeper connections than a hookup — in most cases, it’s meant for relationships, not flings. With match(opens in a new tab), it’s much easier to determine if your potential matches smoke weed ahead of time because the app factors it into your compatibility.

Why it works: First of all, the site is super straightforward to use; it doesn’t involve a whole personality test when it comes to setting up your account. It does, however, ask a few questions when you’re signing up — one of them is about whether you smoke weed.

The Top Picks that match offers up to you, i.e., people the app thinks you’ll be most compatible with, are aligned with your preferences about marijuana (as well as education, faith, and more). That means that right off the bat, you know if someone will be either down to share a joint or tolerant if that’s how you like to unwind at the end of the day — and it also gives you a great talking point if you’re both into it.

The cost: Match does offer a free version of the service, but unfortunately, you can't do much with it. The site's paid offerings include Standard and Premium subscriptions that come in three-, six-, or 12-month options and the option to subscribe à la carte to certain features, like ones that put you at the top of new users’ introductions.

The gist: High There!(opens in a new tab) isn’t just a dating app; it’s a virtual space for cannabis users and enthusiasts to connect and come together — and it once claimed to be the No. 1 dating and social app in the cannabis industry. It’s shifted from its roots as a dating app to being more community-focused now. For example, its homepage is filled with educational articles about weed, smoking it, and the cannabis business in general.

You can get started on the app with just your Facebook profile. From there, you can find singles, friends, and professional contacts — chat with others in groups, check out reviews, post photos, and even find local dispensaries. You are only given five questions about your personality, cannabis consumption, and what you’re looking for in matches before you can start meeting and chatting with other like-minded singles.

Why it works: High There! is often said to be the "Tinder for weed smokers" because it’s pretty similar in mechanics. You scroll through other users on the app who are in your area and can then “say hi” to them, which means you’re interested in connecting with them. Be warned, though: People on High There! aren’t necessarily there to look for dates; they’re also there to meet other cannabis consumers for friendship and smoking buddies.

The cost: High There!(opens in a new tab) is free to download with no in-app purchases.

The gist: Launched in 2011, 420 Singles(opens in a new tab) boasts it's "a place to meet single people in the cannabis community looking for love." Basically, it’s a space where you know you won’t be dismissed from the start for your interest in weed: Unlike traditional dating sites, 420 Singles(opens in a new tab) puts cannabis front and center in finding matches without any judgment or prejudice.

The interface on the app is very similar to Tinder: You swipe right or left to express interest in a profile or not, and there’s also a messaging feature built into the app. Keep an eye out for fake or dodgy profiles, though — the site is riddled with fake profiles, bots, and inactive members.

Why it works: Once you’ve created a profile, you can set who you’re looking for with filters of age range and distance up to 1,000 miles, which is a little excessive but probably reasonable if you want to chat about weed (or sext). 420 Singles has also gone the way of other popular apps and provided users with personality questions to answer (like about favorite movies or if you believe in ghosts or UFOs). When all that’s done, you can start swiping through your own potential matches à la Tinder and use others’ responses to the questions as talking points.

Navigating the app is much easier than the website. Still, on the site, there are additional channels like "groups" and "forums" to interact with the whole community instead of just a single user at a time.

The cost: 420 Singles(opens in a new tab) is free to download for Android and iOS and includes in-app purchases. There's an option to upgrade to 420 Premium for $10.49 per month, which allows you to chat with users even if you haven't matched with them yet. The platform boasts it is "a place to meet single people in the cannabis community looking for love." It's a 420-friendly dating site where like-minded people can find soulmates and smoking buddies. The idea behind the site is for people to find someone special who won’t reject them for being a cannabis enthusiast, whether it be smoking, vaping, or eating edibles.

Read our full review of OkCupid.

The gist: The tried and true dating site has been matching singles online since 2004, and it still remains hugely popular with users thanks to a sleek interface, a great algorithm that relies on fun questions, and a large user base looking for all types of relationships. The questionnaire asks about your personality, physical appearance, sexual preferences, education, and relationship with weed.

Why it works: While the questions are optional, making it great if you don’t want to invest an eharmony-level ton of time when you want something casual, be sure to answer at least the 420 one to help you find other pot lovers.

Since Okcupid's(opens in a new tab) pool of users is so vast, there’s a greater chance you'll match with someone you actually like. And, the more questions you answer, the better chance you have of matching with someone special (it’s recommended that you fill out at least 100 questions to get the most out of the platform). After you fine-tune your profile and upload a few photos, you can match with waiting singles.

Best yet, one super-easy way to find other cannabis fans that Okcupid offers members is a feature where you can search for keywords in people’s profiles, such as "420," "weed," and "cannabis."

The cost: OkCupid is free to download and use, but there's also the option of paid Basic or Premium subscriptions, offered in one-, three-, or six-month durations. Basic subscribers can send unlimited likes, filter out dealbreakers, and eliminate ads. Premium users will get an added list of people who like them and see other users' responses to new questions. Paid subscriptions range from $22.49 per month up to $44.99.

The gist: With Date420Friendly.com(opens in a new tab), you no longer have to feel awkward on a first date when you tell them that you enjoy consuming marijuana — after all, it’s kinda in the name, and all sorts of medicinal and recreational users sign up to try their luck here. Date420Friendly.com wants you to "enjoy the highs in life" by meeting new people, playing fun games, joining group discussions, and attending 420-friendly events and meet-and-greets. The site is also a resource for finding new jobs as it works as a sort of classifieds page for the 420 community. If marijuana is a big part of your life, then Date420Friendly.com is your dating site.

Why it works: Setting up a profile is pretty easy, with basic information like gender, who you’re looking for, and what you’re on the site for (“fun,” “whatever,” “dating,” “friendship” — ”relationship” isn’t an option). You also answer other lifestyle questions like “favorite way to spend time,” how much you drink, and questions about physical characteristics like body type and hair color. Once you upload a photo of yourself and write a short bio, you’re taken to your dashboard, which feels very early 2000s  —  as if it was from the MySpace and Friendster era of social networking. Unfortunately, there is no mobile app available.

Signing up is free, but you really can’t do anything on the site, like sending messages or interacting with other users, until you upgrade your subscription. It seems like a big commitment to upgrade when you don’t know if the dating site is worth using altogether — and the site itself seems neglected.

The cost: Date420Friendly.com is free, but using the site requires premium access. A one-month subscription is $4.20 (of course it is), while one year is only $21. You can also pay for five months of access and get seven months for free.

Read our full review of Zoosk.

The gist: Zoosk(opens in a new tab) started out as a Facebook application (remember those?) in 2007 but has since spun off into its own platform and mobile app. It might not have the presence of Tinder, but there’s a decently sized scene on the app: Zoosk boasts more than 35 million singles spread throughout over 80 countries. It’s known for its ease of use in creating an account and its modern design navigation.

The dating site doesn’t want you to spend your time filling out questionnaires but instead wants you to start matching and meeting new people right away —  in this case, those in the 420-friendly community. With that big of a user base, there are likely a few potential matches near you who like to light up.

Why it works: Zoosk caters to almost all communities by keeping its user base big and robust. While they don’t explicitly have a "420" setting in search, you can filter your matches to find cannabis-friendly people like you. Zoosk offers an option for "smokes regularly," which, while it could mean cigarettes, can also be a strong indication for 420 consumption — something you can easily clear up in the chat since you already know the other person smokes something. You also have the ability to save your search settings, so you don’t have to fiddle around setting your filters every time.

Another thing that makes Zoosk a great app to try your luck on? The app learns your behavior as you interact with it, offering better matches for you.

However, while Zoosk makes it easy to start a profile and search for matches, the online dating app is notorious for its amount of fake and inactive users. It’s a good option or alternative for those who are frustrated with "traditional" online dating, but by no means is it a complete replacement. Finding your perfect match on Zoosk might be easy, but actually meeting or chatting with them might be a different story.

The cost: Zoosk is free to use and download, but you need a premium subscription to search, message, and really do anything more than browse potential matches.

The gist: The name is self-explanatory. You use iHookup(opens in a new tab) if you're looking for a no-strings-attached connection that'll fill the partner-shaped hole in your life. Not as porn-y as AdultFriendFinder, but just the right amount of risqué and is effective in almost the same way (not as large of a user base to pick from). Like AdultFriend Finder, everyone is here for the same thing (hint: it’s not to find love), and there’s a matchmaking algorithm that takes answers to questions about dirty talk and fetishes in mind — but keep in mind it’s super easy for people to exaggerate here.

The biggest downside is that iHookup's already tiny community (only around 230,700 people join per month) is largely dispersed across the world, so unless you live in a big (big) city, chances are you’re not going to find someone living a cab ride away from you. Keep your expectations in check: the most you'll get from it is a long-distance sexting mate (which may not be so bad if that's what you want).

Why it works: Because it’s literally just for sex, iHookup works for a very specific type of hookup. But it plays well to its strengths (i.e. you can get stoned and chat with potential partners without ever leaving the house). Just make sure to be a little more lenient with your search radius, or you might get stuck with a big fat "zero" on your match count.

The cost: iHookup has a free version, but it's pretty bare-bones. If you want to experience all the site has to offer, their memberships start at $34.99 per month.

The gist: While plenty of more "classic" dating apps out there will work well for those in the cannabis community, Hinge(opens in a new tab) separates itself from the bunch as the only "relationship app" that matches singles. Hinge was re-launched in 2016 as a very low-pressure dating app focusing on fun information and photos instead of the swiping model. In fact, Hinge profiles even resemble an Instagram feed, with fun tidbits about you in between your photos. When you match with someone, Hinge prompts recipients with a "Your Turn" feature designed to keep the conversation going to decrease the possibility of "ghosting" someone — something that happens far too frequently on dating apps. Hinge wants singles to build relationships instead of hookups or something casual.

Why it works: The Hinge app(opens in a new tab) is designed for more interaction and engagement than any other dating app. While it still has users' photos and biographical info to swipe through, it also goes the extra mile to make sure it’s easy for users to connect over things like video question prompts and trivia-style questions users can answer and post in their profile. If you like to take a toke and then have a great conversation, Hinge will help you find a pretty ideal smoking partner — and as the app that’s “designed to be deleted,” Hinge is definitely hoping the smoke sesh turns into a little more than that.

While you can’t directly search for 420-friendly matches, it features a section for "vices," including alcohol, smoking, marijuana, and harder drugs. Hinge has its own data on how that affects your prospects too: Revealing you’re a cannabis enthusiast might increase your chances of receiving matches by 10 percent, but only if you’re under 25 years old, according to a study from Hinge. If you’re over 25, your likes might decrease by 25 percent. A predilection for weed led to the percentage of likes decreasing by 35 percent for those 40 or older. (The more you know.)

The cost: Hinge is free to download and get started. More features open up for paid subscribers.

Read our comparison of EliteSingles vs. eharmony.

The gist: EliteSingles(opens in a new tab) is well-suited for a picky professional serious about finding a match that looks great on paper. Unlike other apps, the in-depth (albeit pricey) service verifies each user manually, so the chances of fraud are extremely low. It's nice to know that the dating site you're using is safe. If you're looking for a specific type of person, someone who’ll puff-puff-pass with you, you can use EliteSingles' super-powerful filters that whittle your options down to fit your highly specific criteria.

Why it works: The best part about EliteSingles is that it can usually find someone within your picky parameters of whom you want to date. Its five-factor personality test uses high-grade algorithms to find you a compatible mate. You'll even have access to your own compatibility rating compared to the people you're searching for. Be ready to take some time to build out your profile, but it's worth it in the end. But because it's made for the self-proclaimed "elite" crowd, you might also get a lot of non-users in your matches. But hey, you might get lucky.

The cost: If you're going to try EliteSingles, don't even bother with the free version. Instead, pick from one of their pricey (but worth it) membership plans.

The gist: It might not have the cultural cachet of apps like Bumble or Tinder, but Plenty of Fish(opens in a new tab) is one of the most popular dating sites among singles, with over 100,000,000 members from all around the world. And it’s not just for dating — if you’re looking for a new smoking buddy, this is a great way to meet less-than-romantic connections too. Just about anyone looking for any companionship, friendship, or relationship can find it on Plenty of Fish — and yes, it’s cannabis friendly, too.

Just know that you’ll want to get comfortable when you sign up for a profile: A long personality assessment will take about 20 minutes to do with the rest of your account setup. However, the initial investment is worth it: Plenty of Fish rewards users with features that most apps make you pay more for, like messaging, matching, testimonials, favorites, and more (that’s not to say you can’t upgrade for more, though).

Why it works: Plenty of Fish(opens in a new tab)  is a good alternative to OkCupid and Zoosk — in terms of dating apps, they’re all kind of in the same “tier.”

While you can search by location, age, and gender, you can also search by interests like "420-friendly" and "cannabis." You’d be surprised how many people who use the dating site are weed enthusiasts or use marijuana regularly. Although Plenty of Fish wasn’t created with cannabis in mind, it was built in a broad way so that singles have developed a category for it based on their interests. Given how friendly Plenty of Fish is toward weed users and how big its member pool is, it makes for a better experience for some than the marijuana-specific sites and apps, which tend to have a much smaller user pool.

The cost: Plenty of Fish is free to use and download. However, you could upgrade to a premium account with more perks like Super Yes-es, tokens, and zero ads.
