It feels like we say this every year, but 2023 really is popping off in the video game department. It's a lot to keep up with — and try to budget for, considering first-party titles start at $70 now (even at Nintendo(opens in a new tab)). Fortunately, Amazon has a metric boatload of video games and gaming gear on sale ahead of its annual Prime Day savings event on July 11 and 12.

Why we like it
One of our absolute favorite games of 2023 so far (and a leading GOTY contender), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom expands upon 2017's Breath of the Wild with new abilities to master, enemies to clobber, and maps to explore. Why we like it
Amazon Prime members(opens in a new tab) can claim several free games in the weeks leading up to Prime Day (via Prime Gaming(opens in a new tab)), the first one being Prey, a creepy cosmic FPS from 2017. It nabbed an 8/10 from Dan Stapleton over at IGN(opens in a new tab) (which is owned by Mashable's publisher, Ziff Davis), who said the "curious alternate-history universe, intriguing sidequests, hidden threats, and detailed environmental storytelling" make up for its mediocre combat.
