Google's domination of your household electronics continues apace.

At Google I/O 2023, the company behind Pixel phones finally gave us a closer look at the Pixel Tablet that Google first showed off at last year's I/O event. As expected, it...looks like a tablet! It launches sometime in June for $500. You can preorder on Google's website(opens in a new tab) now.

Pixel Tablet specs

As you might expect, the Pixel Tablet runs on the same Tensor G2 chip that powers the Pixel 7 line, so performance should hopefully not be a major concern. It also comes with a charging speaker dock in every box. No more having to buy a separate accessory to turn your tablet into a miniature TV.

It can also interface with a Pixel phone, such as the 7a. Google says the front camera is optimized for video calls, which will undoubtedly be a major use of this device when combined with the speaker dock. Google's voice recognition tech is also here to help you type messages more quickly. Oh, and Chromecast is built in. That's nice.

Perhaps most importantly, Google has worked with more than 50 apps to make them work nicely on the bigger Pixel Tablet screen. Google Home is one app that's been optimized for the device, as you can turn the tablet into a security hub for your entire home if you want. Multiple users can also have profiles on the tablet, so it's a device for the home as much as it is a device for the road.

Glad we could finally close the loop Google opened up at last year's I/O.
