The high-stakes thrills of the Mission: Impossible franchise are back, and by the looks of the trailer for Dead Reckoning Part One, these movies are upping the stakes.

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team are back, and this time they're on the trail of a new weapon that could potentially threaten all of humanity. Based on our new supervillain's (Esai Morales) dramatic monologuing from the trailer, it seems like this weapon knows everyone on Earth's story — as well as their fates. Creepy! (And in the age of AI, freakily relevant.)

And of course, it wouldn't be a Mission: Impossible film without some ridiculously awesome stunts. The trailer gives us a glimpse of several intense car chases and fights, including one on top of a moving train, but the standout is a sequence in which Ethan drives his motorcycle off a mountain. He plummets downwards for several seconds, and by the time the trailer cuts away, we still haven't seen how he's going to get out of this one. I'm sure he will, but that shot of Ethan speeding towards the ground is enough to make my own stomach drop — and to pique my interest in the film.

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters July 12.
