Well, at least you can't say the new Super Mario Bros. game looks boring.

Announced during a Nintendo Direct stream on Wednesday, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the latest platformer in the Italian plumber's long and illustrious career. It's also the first new 2D side-scrolling Mario in many years.

Those are the things that are normal about it. After that, stuff gets strange real fast. It looks like Mario can ingest a new power-up called a "Wonder flower" that, put simply, makes everything get all freaky. Pipes change shape, at one point Mario becomes really long like a tree, and generally speaking, everything has a kind of drug trip vibe to it.

It's also got co-op play and a bunch of playable characters, including Toad, Peach, and Daisy. Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Oct. 20.
